Moon Mountain is renowned as one of the world’s famous mountains, known as a celestial and spiritual mountain. It has a marble-paved climbing path with 800 steps leading to the Moon Palace, which is about 50 meters high and wide, adorned with many stalactites resembling the Moon Goddess and jade rabbits, in harmony with the myth of the Guanghan Palace.
Local Specialties
Songhua Candy
Songhua candy originated from a private kitchen in the former residence of Li Zongren, President of the Republic of China, located in Liujang Town of Lingui District in Guilin. It was invented by a chef from Li Zongren's household. Over nearly a century of transmission and innovation, its flavor has become increasingly enticing, sweet but not cloying, melting in the mouth without sticking to the teeth, and is popular in northern Guangxi, originating from Yangshuo and Xingping. The name “Songhua” has various explanations; one suggests it is named for its golden grains resembling pine flowers; another posits that it comes from the candy’s “crispy sweetness melting in the mouth,” which is a mispronunciation of “crispy sugar.” It is also said to symbolize the New Year wish for “spending money easily” as a traditional festive food from Liujang Town in Guilin. Songhua candy is also a specialty food of Yangshuo Xingping.
