Background
Jiaozi Snow Mountain Scenic Area is located 147 kilometers from Kunming and is considered the first mountain in the Dianzhong region. It is named because its highest peak resembles a flower sedan chair. Jiaozi Snow Mountain is situated at the border between Luqun and Dongchuan, with an altitude of 4,227 meters.Jiaozi Mountain is located at the boundary of Dongchuan District and Luqun Yi and Miao Autonomous County, consisting of several peaks, including Jiaozi Mountain, Qi Wang Mountain, Dongying Mountain, and Guanyin Mountain. The scenic area covers an area of 253 square kilometers, and the main peak has an elevation of 4,223.4 meters, making it the highest peak in Dianzhong. Its shape is similar to a flower sedan chair placed among many mountains, hence the name. Jiaozi Mountain is a typical glacial landform landscape in the Dianzhong region.

Alpine Lakes
At altitudes between 3800 and 4100 meters, there are numerous glacial erosion depressions in the Jiaozi Snow Mountain Scenic Area. Some of these depressions accumulate water year-round, forming high-altitude lakes, also known as "Heavenly Lakes." Famous examples include Snow Mountain Tianchi, Mu Bang Hai, and Jingguai Tan. Because of their high altitude and unstable mountain-top climate, disturbing the surface of these lakes, or even shouting loudly, often leads to rain or hail, adding to the mysterious aura of Jiaozi Mountain. In the section of the Jiazi Snow Mountain at an altitude of 2500 to 4000 meters, many high-mountain waterfalls of various shapes and forms are distributed, with drops ranging from tens to hundreds of meters. In summer, these waterfalls cascade like silver curtains, enveloped in clouds and mist. During the cold winter season, the waterfalls are "frozen" from top to bottom, forming icefalls, resembling giant white marble sculptures with myriad forms.Colorful Flower Creek
Flower Creek is a sister waterfall located within the high-mountain waterfall group, over 800 meters long and 6 to 10 meters wide. The banks of the creek are densely covered with original rhododendron forests, and the stream flows between white rock. In autumn and winter, the stream freezes, forming a huge, pure white ice belt. At the turn of spring and summer, red, white, and yellow rhododendrons bloom along the creek, displaying vibrant colors. The reflections in the stream, the interplay of flowers and water, the flowers falling into the creek and flowing with the water, all present a scene of original natural beauty.Primitive Forest
The Jiazi Snow Mountain scenic area preserves 15,000 acres of primitive secondary forests of Abies georgei (a type of fir tree) and original rhododendron forests, many of which are ancient relict plants that survived the glacial period. This is one of the best-preserved forest ecosystem areas in central Yunnan. In the forests of Jiazi Mountain, the trees are covered with Usnea (Old Man's Beard lichen), the ancient trees reach to the sky, and the area is secluded and simple, presenting a magnificent spectacle.Rhododendron Sea
The Jiazi Snow Mountain area has nearly 32 species of rhododendrons, among which Rhododendron rex (the King Rhododendron), Rhododendron lacteum (Yellow Rhododendron), and Rhododendron dichroanthum (a type of blood-red rhododendron) are National Class II protected plants. In the Daheiqing area, there are nearly ten thousand acres of well-preserved pure forests of Rhododendron hemsleyanum (a type of red-haired rhododendron). Various rhododendrons bloom in succession from February to July. During the flowering season, the mountains are covered with a colorful display, becoming a world and an ocean of flowers.Alpine Meadow
On the gently sloping plateau on the west side of Jiazi Mountain, at an altitude of 4000 meters, there are hundreds of acres of alpine meadows. The color of the grass changes with the seasons. The grass naturally forms piles, rows, and lines at intervals. In summer, the green waves roll, and after autumn, the land turns golden. The natural arrangement of the meadows is exquisite and clever, interspersed with wildflowers, creating a natural alpine meadow landscape.Mysterious Buddha's Light
Buddha's Light is an atmospheric optical phenomenon. A spectacular halo appears on the clouds, with a semi-circular, outer-red and inner-purple seven-colored halo enveloping the shadows of the visitors. The shadow moves with the person, hence the name "Buddha's Light." The Buddha's Light appearing on the Foguang Rock of Jiazi Mountain has a beautiful shape and is usually visible between 2 PM and 5 PM on clear, cloudy days.Billowing Sea of Clouds
The Jiazi Mountain scenic area has high humidity, and above 3000 meters in altitude is often shrouded in clouds and mist. Sometimes, the cloud layer appears on the mountainside, with the verdant mountains floating above the sea of clouds. In spring, the average temperature in Jiazi Mountain is between 1 to 4 degrees Celsius, with a significant temperature difference between day and night. During the day, the sunlight is bright and there is plenty of sunshine, while at night, the temperature drops significantly and it gets quite cold with strong winds. During the day, visitors should wear a shell jacket, fleece, cotton coat, or down jacket, and various sunscreen and moisturizing products are also essential.Summer
In summer, the average temperature in Jiazi Mountain ranges from 3 to 13 degrees Celsius, with a considerable temperature difference between day and night. In autumn, the average temperature in Jiazi Mountain is between 2 to 6 degrees Celsius, with a large temperature difference between day and night. This is when Jiazi Mountain enters the rainy season with frequent overcast and rainy weather. On clear days, the autumn air is crisp and the sunshine is bright, while during rainy days, the temperature is lower. Visitors should wear windproof and warm clothing, as well as bring rain gear; sunscreen products are also necessary.Winter
In winter, the average temperature in Jiazi Mountain ranges from 0 to 3 degrees Celsius, with little temperature variation between day and night. The weather during this time is dry and cold, so visitors are advised to bring sufficient warm and moisturizing products, and it is recommended to eat more fruits. After it snows, the glare can be quite strong, so please bring a pair of sunglasses.
